ebbflux's "machine text" is an experimental fiction in a hypertext format. Story generation is non-linear but not entirely random. The reader plays an interactive role setting the tone and direction of presentation through their choice of hypertext clickthroughs.

Architecture:
The narrative is generated from a database library containing chunks of text called nodes. Each embedded hyperlink uses PHP (a hypertext preprocessing language) to call a semantic search of the node library in MySQL (an open source unix database). Before their database entry, nodes are analyzed and contextually mapped to the whole creating an ontology (or nodegraph) which formally defines relationships, structures, and inference rules for this semantic search. Algorithms then create and display unique document story text based on the results.

Theory:
In this way, "machine text" becomes a mammoth text with an ever changing, self creating narrative as the shifting juxtaposition of the interchangeable nodes adds subtle nuance and constant contextual variation. This pairing, sorting, and displaying of relevant and random nodes creates the unique organic flow of the text.

Dialectics:
"machine text" is an ongoing work. The regular addition of new nodes and editing of existing nodes in the library will continually effect the shape and direction of the story.

You may (reset) some of your stats here if you'd like. The rest of this is artifact and math that you can most certainly probably ignore (unless you're a structuralist).
